Pillowtalk by Cassie Mae

Kennedy Walters used to be lucky in love—until tragedy struck. Now she’s come to the lakeside town of Lyra Valley to finally put the past behind her. But while Kennedy’s staying at a local B&B, she is shocked to find herself undeniably drawn to a sweet-talking hometown heartthrob. Kennedy isn’t sure if she’s ready to move on—and yet one look in Aaron Sheppard’s eyes makes her wish he'd make his move.

Aaron returned to Lyra Valley because he was fed up with the big city and everything he was missing: beautiful, down-to-earth girls like Kennedy. Turns out Aaron has more in common with Kennedy than he realized, and suddenly he wonders if he should give her a little space. But after a power outage strands them together, their innocent flirtation turns to intimate conversation. And over the course of a night that neither will ever forget, Aaron and Kennedy learn just how compatible they could be—if only they’d let themselves fall into each other’s arms.

Pillowtalk is a sweet story about loving, losing and learning to move on in the most unexpected ways. It starts off quite heavy, with Kennedy taking Jared's (her late fiance), ashes back to his hometown as per his wishes. There she meets Aaron, who has just returned home, himself, from the big city life.  Conveniently, Aaron happens to be Jared's former best friend (that he had never mentioned). A bit more coincidental than I tend to like but c'est la vie. Their story is one of a fresh relationship trying to break a cycle of guilt and forge its own way. Part of a reason I didn't absolutely love this story is because I found that Kennedy flopped back and forth too much for my liking. She's constantly going from falling into the arms of Aaron to retracting back into the shell where she still sleeps with Jared's urn. Perhaps that's the whole point of the story--the fact that she's having so much trouble moving on with her life while desperately holding onto Jared. Either way...I wasn't in love with how the story panned out, however, I did enjoy Cassie's writing style and it was still an enjoyable read!

Blog Tour: Kiss My Boots by Harper Sloan

In this second of the sultry, Western-set Coming Home series from New York Times bestselling author Harper Sloan, Quinn Davis might finally have a shot at her own happily-ever-after—but will she let love in, or will she tell it to go ahead and kiss her boots?

Quinn Davis prefers to live her life quietly. She’s the stereotypical tomboy with two overprotective big brothers who have always been there to protect her, especially from devilishly handsome cowboys with silver tongues. That is, until Tate Montgomery comes riding into town. Their first meeting, however, is far from something out of a fairy tale and only further convinces Quinn that men aren’t worth her time.

The only place Tate Montgomery ever truly felt at home growing up was during the long, sweltering summer months he spent at his Gram and Paw’s farm in Pine Oak, Texas. Now, Tate has returned to his childhood sanctuary seeking a fresh start—but if he’s being entirely honest, he’s not just back for the wranglers and Stetsons. During those summers, Quinn was a friend-turned-young-love who Tate lost when life threw him a curveball and he cut all ties to his past; but all it takes is one glance at the raven-haired beauty he did his best to forget for him to realize just how much he’s been missing….

I picked up this second installment to the Coming Home series because the first one really drew me in. This second one didn't disappoint as I, also, thoroughly enjoyed it. The writing flows  nicely and is easy to read. I find the story of Quinn and Tate engaging. I think the fact that Tate was basically forced out of Quinn's life by his own family created a turmoil that made for a super gut-wrenching story. With each chapter, both of them uncover more truths to secrets that have long kept them in strife and from each other. Quinn and Tate use Tate's homecoming as a jumping off point to help heal each other's souls. It's really a heart-warming tale, seeing two people who were destined for each other, come together and take their own futures and happiness into their own hands.  I can't wait for Clay's story!

Wilder by Rebecca Yarros

He’s Paxton Wilder.

Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.

Five time X Games medalist.

The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.

He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.

But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.

Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.

Wilder is available for purchase:

Wow. What can I say about Wilder? Not enough. Rebecca Yarros, yet again, throws one hell of a Book #1 to us for this new Renegade series. I absolutely loved Yarros' Flight & Glory series...so much so that I didn't think anything could come close to it. Boyyyyy was I wrong. Paxton Wilder held my attention from the first pages of this story. Yarros' storytelling is paralleled by none. I haven't come across this sort of depth and intricate storytelling in the new adult world. She spins a great tale and her series only seem to get better with each book.

This novel sets up the rest of the series very nicely, we are introduced to the cast we're going to become familiar with in this series--The Renegades. A team of adrenaline-seeking-extreme-sports-enthusiasts aboard a cruise ship as a part of a Study at Sea program for nine months. The best friends are also filming a documentary of all their stunting from places all over the world.  Each of the friends have distinct personalities but the common bond of lifetime friendship, loyalty and love. The first of this series, this is Wilder's story. There's something about the bad boys that make us all swoon. Their edge, perhaps? The draw is undeniable. Everybody wants a piece of what's not good for them. Leah is no different. She meets Pax in a once-in-a-lifetime situation--she's tutoring Pax during a nine-month stint in a Study at Sea program. Knowing he's everything that's no good for her, Leah tries to steer away from Pax and his adrenaline junkie ways but there's something about him that just pulls him to her. Both with their secrets and mysterious pasts, Leah and Pax try to tread lightly around each other, trying not to get too close. Can they resist the chemistry and attraction they can't seem to fight?

Flirty Thirty by Cassie Mae

Maya never expected to get kissed when she walked out in her ratty old hoodie (and nothing else) to get the mail. But when a shirtless god jogs down your street, grabs your face, and kisses you… you kiss that man back!

Cooper is on a mission to find the love of his life, and he’s gotten desperate. Over thirty years old with more money than he could spend in his lifetime, he’s ready to spoil and love his soul mate. After hiring the beautiful woman he kissed on the street as his realtor, he’s convinced that fate has led him to her.

Maya doesn’t buy into fate and definitely doesn’t want something serious. She’s not ready to become one of her baggy-eyed friends who all have two or more kids and one or less husband. But when Cooper challenges her to a week of living the married life, Maya dives in headfirst thinking she’s sure to prove that singlehood is really the way to go, even if she does end up falling head over heels.

Another great story from Cassie! The nerdy element makes her books that much more relate-able for myself and the fact that this story is about people of about my age group makes it that much better! True to her usual humour, Flirty Thirty continues her trend of awkward moments and comedic scenes that have you laughing throughout the book. The characters are loveable--Cooper, moreso, I found in this book and very much full of amusing antics. Maya and Cooper have a great chemistry together and that set the stage for a fun, light-hearted read. I recommend this novel for anyone looking for a good storyline, and characters that feel like they're real enough to fit into your own group of friends! Definitely enjoyed the first installment in this series...bring on some more, Cassie!

About the Book

BecauseofLila_Amazon_iBooks

Prim, proper, classic good girl, and her least favorite label – icy.

Lila Kate Carter has heard them all. The last one, being the newest. She is not icy. She just doesn’t care for Cruz Kerrington and his spoiled, selfish, careless ways. That doesn’t make her icy, that makes him a jerk!

Tired of being labeled and doing what is expected of her, Lila Kate leaves Rosemary Beach, Florida ready for an adventure. Wanting to recreate herself, find a new path, and become something more.

Eli Hardy is tired of women who always act the same, do the same thing and expect the same thing. He’s ready to swear off women until he can get the rest of his life together.

Two weeks into his no-women-rule he meets Lila. She’s so damn sweet and polite. Like she walked right out of an etiquette book. But he’d already been drunk before she walked in so there was a good chance she might not be as stunning and perfect as he thinks. He’s just too drunk to worry about that.

The next morning, he swears he can still smell her on his skin. He just can’t remember why or what happened after that third dance.

Their worlds are about to collide, and so are the secrets and lies.
