Blog Tour: Band of Bachelors: Lucas by Sharon Hamilton

Special Operator Lucas Shipley thought his living arrangement was temporary, since getting booted from the house by his wife. He sleeps on a couch in the apartment with four other divorced Navy SEALs, thinking he’ll get the call to come home any day. He ignores the not-so-helpful advice his buddies are giving him about marriage, women and romance. Until he gets served with divorce papers.

Realtor Marcy Gelland is hired by Lucas’ soon-to-be ex-wife to liquidate all their real estate holdings and help her orchestrate a speedy departure from Lucas’ life. Based on what the hot-headed SEAL wife has told her, Marcy understands Lucas deserves every ounce of pain coming his way.

But when Marcy and Lucas are left alone together in the remote Northern California woods, they ignite a personal bonfire that threatens to burn down the whole forest. Marcy is forced to see she is wrong about Lucas.

Amidst the backdrop of hardened bachelor SEALs with their unsolicited, anti-long-term relationship advice, and a terrorist training camp operating nearby, Lucas must do what he’s always done: be the hero and save the day. But will it be in time to save Marcy?

Excerpt

Lucas could see T.J. was relieved. “Honored to meet you, Reverend Banks. T.J. has talked about you non-stop since we found out you were coming out here,” Lucas said as he shook the pastor’s massive hand.

Forsythe was going over some photos and stopped to greet T.J.’s friend. “We’re most grateful for any help you can give us.”

“That’s partly why I’m here.”

Kyle showed Banks the photo of the Sheik. “This is the guy we’re looking for, reverend.”

Banks studied the photo. “Hmm. Reminds me of a real bad dude came through here last year, just before Christmas, but it wasn’t this guy. Big, grown bad-ass men at the prison were bowing on their knees to him. He swept through here, had a couple huge services at the Mosque and there were crowds clear across the street, blocking traffic. Police had to shut down the whole area and it was on the news. I don’t remember his name, but he was someone big, very big in their circle.”

“Like an advanced guard,” Forsythe commented.

“Kyle,” Jackie slipped between them. “You guys find some news footage. Let me listen to what he’s saying and I’ll tell you exactly what he was all about. This guy I don’t know, but he must be a powerful Imam from Iraq, maybe Syria,” offered Jackie Daniels.

Forsythe indicated he’d get someone working on it.

“So you wanna catch us up as far as what’s been happening in the community?” T.J. asked.

“Word has it there’s going to be a coordinated effort at a strike, or something of that nature. But the thing that bothers me is that this prison isn’t the only place. I got a friend out west works in the central valley of California, and he’s run across the same thing. This Imam I was telling you about went to all those places, too.” Banks looked around him at all the SEALs. “So what’re you doing here in Tennessee? Not exactly a place I’d expect to see this kind of crowd.”

No Interest in Love by Cassie Mae

Readers of Emma Chase are sure to fall for bestselling author Cassie Mae’s All About Love series! In No Interest in Love, Hollywood’s hottest young actor hits the road to chase his big break—and discovers a leading lady where he least expected.

When Jace Carver snags a minor part in his buddy’s zombie flick, he suddenly starts getting noticed all over the place. Even Hollywood megastar Carletta Ocean—known for her extensive “research” with her male co-stars—wants Jace for her new rom-com. The role could be a game-changer . . . if Jace nails the audition.

As Jace’s agent, Shaylene Kwak is all business, and isn’t about to let her favorite client blow this opportunity. Since their college years, Shay has been immune to Jace’s charm and rock-hard body. But long hours in close company have a way of wearing down even the best defenses, and when their platonic teasing turns into serious flirting, Jace and Shay are no longer able to resist what’s been right in front of them the entire time.

Shay knows Jace’s love-’em-and-leave-’em history with women. She’s not about to be just another notch in his belt. And it’s true, Jace has never wanted more than a one-night stand—until now. But at the end of the line, he’s got a choice: sleep with Carletta and seal the deal, or risk his career for a shot at true love with Shay.

This book is totally a case of "it'll hit you when you're least expecting it" lol. LOVED it. Cassie Mae comes at us with her humour once again. The more I read of this series, the more I embrace my nerdy side and I have these books to thank. They make you feel a lot more human and a lot better about real life than your typical knight-on-a-white-horse-romance. My favourite so far in this series, I loved the the point of view it's told. Jace's mind is hilarious to be in and the way he narrates his life is great. For all you How I Met Your Mother fans, very Barney-Stinson. In my mind, Shay is played by Lane Kim's character (Gilmore Girls). The way Cassie developed Jace and Shay's characters just made everything that much better. Their adventurous roadtrip is something out of a movie--shit like that just can't happen in real life lol. Anyway, great novel, funny and awkward--just perfect. I can't wait to see what the rest of this series brings!

Oh, and can I say that the X-Men references in this book totally give it that much more street cred around my parts? ;)

Bad Boy CEO by Sugar Jamison

Colt King has spent his whole life trying to prove he's not the trash his hometown of Destiny, Nevada, thought he and his brothers were. As soon as he was old enough he left town, vowing to make a name for himself and never looking back at the place that looked down on him. But that plan goes out the window when his ailing elderly aunt asks him to come home.

He begrudgingly returns to help the woman who raised him. But he's no longer the poor kid from the bad part of town. He's the ruler of a custom car empire and a financial genius. He arrives expecting a boring stay, but when he walks into his childhood home to find a woman in nothing but her underwear pointing a shotgun at his face, he knows his trip home will be a memorable one. With his aunt sick and forcing him to help her restore her fledgling hair salon, he has more than enough on his plate. Colt has no idea that her sexy tenant, Zanna, is going to be the cause of his many sleepless nights.

Zanna Jacobs came to the ghost town of Destiny to stay out of trouble and stay the hell away from men. She's got a serious thing for bad boys that's she trying to kick, and when she lays her eyes on the brutishly handsome Colt, she knows he's got bad news written all over him. He's not the typical thug she goes for: He's too clean cut, too good looking, and too cold--and when he comes to take over her salon, she's not going to take it. Zanna decides to show him exactly who the boss is. Colt is used to people following his orders, and when Zanna challenges his every word he finds her infuriating and incredibly sexy. He can't keep his hands off her...and knows that once he returns to Las Vegas, all bets are off...

I found this a classic tale of bad boy being tamed, unexpectedly, by The One. It just so happened that The One in this instance is our feisty lead, Zanna. Colt has found his match--someone who won't back down and one who can hold her own against his, otherwise, feared self. It's refreshing to see arrogance taken down a notch and Zanna does just that with Colt. From the first pages of this novel, we are entertained by the antics that can only be found in a trailer-park-hillbilly-esque setting. The chemistry between Colt and Zanna is zing-ing from the get-go and it's just fun to see it really come to life as they figure out that they want to end up together.

When she's not diving into the world of her characters, some of her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach … which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. Can't Hold Back by Serena Bell

In this tender military romance from the bestselling author of Hold on Tight—perfect for fans of of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery—a war-shattered veteran gets a second chance at love with the one that got away.

No girl can resist a man in uniform—especially if that man is Nate Riordan. But after an injury in the line of duty leaves Nate broken, body and soul, the soldier finds himself addicted to his pain meds, with no place to call home. Desperate for an escape, Nate reluctantly accepts a friend’s invitation to a new veterans’ retreat. Expecting a little R&R, Nate is shocked when the sight of his physical therapist opens up another old wound: heartbreak.

Years ago, Alia Drake fell hard for Nate, but never made her move. Instead, she set up her sister with the sexy, confident military man, a foolish decision that continues to haunt all three of them. Now, with Nate as her patient, she can make things right—even if it means getting too close for comfort. A healing touch and a little honesty work wonders, fueling a physical intimacy that crosses professional boundaries. This time, with desire in the air once more, Alia won’t hold anything back.

As with Serena Bell's other Returning Home novel, I enjoyed this one as well. They are very loosely connected--they share and mention a couple of characters from Bell's first novel in this series. Having been severely injured at war, Nate returns home to deal with the aftermath of having served in warring countries. Nate ends up at the rehabilitation resort that Jake has opened. Enter Alia someone Nate could have done without ever seeing again. She happens to be the sister of someone he had dated in the past. They have quite the messy history--one where Alia my have fallen for Nate but has kept it from him! ...see where the drama is? Anyway, so we have two people--one who's trying to avoid his past and one who's fighting with her emotions! Bell's writing is great--the book is easy to get through, like her first, there's enough depth without going on too much. There's just so much turmoil and back and forth between her characters, it's hard to put these books down!

Blog Tour: Beyond What is Given by Rebecca Yarros

Lt. Grayson Masters is focused on graduating the Apache helicopter course, and the last thing he needs is his gorgeous new roommate Samantha Fitzgerald distracting him. While her smart mouth and free spirit are irresistibly irritating, he can’t deny their off-the-charts chemistry, no matter how hard he tries.

Having just been expelled from college, Sam has no business digging for Grayson’s secrets while she’s hiding her own, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to tear down his walls. Each barrier she busts through drops one of her own, though, and she’s not prepared for the truth: another woman laid claim to Grayson’s heart long ago.

Falling in love is something neither Grayson nor Sam can afford, and when that line is crossed and secrets are exposed, they’ll learn that sometimes it’s the answered prayers that will put you through hell.

I shrieked as the mixer whirred a shrill pitch and batter exploded, hitting the walls, the cabinets, my face...everything. I sputtered as some landed in my mouth, and slammed my hand against the lever to turn it off.

This was going to be a bitch to clean up.

“Are you okay?” Grayson ran in, hair damp from the shower. His eyes widened as he took in the state of his precious kitchen. “You weren’t kidding about the mess.”

“Oh this?” I smiled. “It’s a new aeration technique. I totally meant to do this.” My awesome excuse died as a glob of brownie mix fell off the tip of my nose.

“Is that so?” he asked, walking over to me slowly, consuming my vision. My breath hitched as he swiped his finger across my cheek, and then licked the brownie mix off the digit. Holy hot. “Hmm... I think there’s something to be said for this method. Maybe a little more air in the batter?”

My mouth popped open. “Are you making fun of me?”

He smirked, which must have had a direct link to my panties, because they unanimously voted to drop. Now. There was sexy, and there was Grayson’s tongue sweeping across his lower lip, which was a step beyond hedonistic. His eyes took on a mischievous glint but kept the same signature intensity that held me captive, unable to look anywhere else as he lowered his face toward mine.

What...what was he doing?

Do you even care? Nope. Not one bit.

“Maybe another taste to be sure?” he asked, his voice low as his lips skimmed across my jawline.

“Mmm. Definitely more.” Shivers coursed down my body. Holy shit. His mouth was actually on me, and I was awake.

He flipped the switch on the mixer and chocolate flew.

“You did not!” I let my knees buckle so I slipped to the floor, leaving Grayson to be splattered by the flying confection.

“I most certainly did!” He lifted me up like I weighed nothing, and batter smacked the back of my tank top. “Man, you’re slippery.” He mock-dropped me.

I yelped, locking my ankles around his waist and my hands around his neck. He turned off the mixer and chuckled low in his throat. “You can laugh?” I asked, yanking my head back to look at him.

“I have been known to on occasion,” he answered, that stupid, crazy-sexy smirk in play despite the chocolate on his cheeks and forehead. How the hell could someone look so hot while literally dripping brownie batter?

“I like it,” I admitted.

His smirk disappeared, and his grip tightened on my bare thighs as his gaze dropped to my lips. They parted as if he’d freaking asked them to. We weren’t just stepping out of the friend-zone here, we were on a damn missile into let- me-jump-you-ville.

“I do, too,” he whispered.

"But, Samantha, it doesn't matter if I'm at our house at Rucker, or walking the beach here. I'm still yours. Sitting next to Grace? Yours. Studying for my next flight? Yours. Arguing with my sisters, my parents, the Bowdens...I'm still yours. I might not say it, but if I happened to you, well, you sure-as-hell happened to me. You challenge me, transform me every day. It doesn't matter what everyone sees, or what role I have to play, you're under my skin, and when I come here, you're along for the ride. This is not a temporary thing between us. There is no deadline. I. Am. Always. Yours."
--Grayson

Hello, can you say 'SWOON'? I can't gush enough about Grayson and Samantha's story. Quite possibly, they are my favourite. There's always the fear that subsequent books in series will never be able to top or even match earlier books. That is not the case in Rebecca Yarros' Flight & Glory series. Every book has been nothing short of amazing. Gut-wrenching, heart-aching, make-you-feel-non-fictional-feelings-for-fictional-characters kind of books. Beyond What is Given is no different. Grayson has this whole other life he's been able to keep from everyone up until his final year of flight school. He's got one goal--to finish at the top of his class--and nothing will get in his way. Samantha arrives as a new housemate to the guys at Fort Rucker with a past she's trying to get away from. Having hit rock bottom, she's looking for a way back up. The two of them are thrown together and the chemistry is off the charts from first sight. Finally, Grayson's personal life comes to light and holy drama-llama. An entire life back in North Carolina, complete with a girlfriend who's been comatose for 5 years. Soap opera-esque to the core. So much happens by the time you even get halfway into the book, you think you can't take anymore. But you just get SO MUCH MORE no-way-that-didn't-just-happen moments. Anyways, I think I teared for these characters about a dozen or more times throughout the novel. The  raw want and need for each other is very well articulated in the hotter than hot sex scenes but you won't be disappointed as there is just as much desire, romance and drama to put your emotions through the wringer in this story.

"Because I fucking love you!...I'm in love with you, Samantha. You own me, body, heart, mind, soul, whatever there is to give, it's yours."
--Grayson

I can't wait for the next book...yet...I so don't want this series to come to an end. That is all.
