Blog Tour: 8 Weeks by Bethany Lopez

Is eight weeks enough time to earn back the love of someone you've betrayed...the only one you've ever loved?

Shelly has been in love with Cal since they started dating in eleventh grade. Despite everyone saying that the odds were against them, they got married after graduation and built a life together. Now, six years later, she is faced with the ultimate betrayal. Devastated, her first instinct is to call it quits…

After a drunken binge at his best friends’ bachelor party, Cal betrays the one person who has always been there for him, his wife, Shelly. Terrified and realizing she might divorce him, Cal must come up with a way to prove to her that his love is true…

Cal asks Shelly for eight weeks. Eight weeks to convince her that their marriage is worth the fight. Will Shelly be able to trust him again, or will their marriage end the way many others do when faced with opposition… In divorce?

The thing that first drew me to this book was the premise--8 weeks for Cal to convince Shelly that their marriage is worth saving. Everything is exciting when you're put up against time but I'm a strong believer that trust will never be fully regained once broken so I was very interested in seeing how this story worked out.

Right off the bat, I must say that it is the friends that surround Cal and Shelly that give this story a good feeling. I wasn't overly pulled into Cal and Shelly's relationship/story alone. I felt that it was a bit bland but that was fixed with the colours of the supportive cast that surrounded them. I didn't like that we know nothing about what happened to Cal in Vegas and I disliked, even more, that we really learn nothing else about it. If I were Shelly, I wouldn't be able to even think about moving on and forgiving Cal unless I KNEW the details of what went on. Is there a chance of STIs or a bastard child? ...questions, questions, questions! I'm totally in Shelly's court with the hard-ass-give-me-a-divorce outlook. It's definitely a stance I'd take. I will give it to Cal, though, he genuinely seems to want to rectify everything that happened (what, oh what, happened?!) in Vegas.

The writing was great which is another reason why I enjoyed the book despite not totally being in love with the couple at the center of all things. Bethany spins a good story and really works in the supporting cast in a very encompassing way. They're there to literally support and be a part of the novel vs just being a name in the background. I know I'm not being very eloquent but I hope I'm getting that point across. Looking forward to more of this series--hope that there's a couple I can fall in love with :)
